Basketball betting: spreads, totals and the overtime rule
Basketball is a high-scoring sport with no draws in most competitions, and that shapes every market it offers. From the NBA to the EuroLeague and national leagues, the structure is the same: a winner market, a points spread, a total and a long list of quarter and player markets. Whether your Ninja account includes sports betting is something to check in the account menu — we cannot confirm it from the outside. For the basics of odds and margins, see the betting hub.
Moneyline and point spread
The moneyline is simply who wins the game, overtime included. Because one team is often a clear favourite, the spread is the more popular market: the favourite gets a minus line, say −6.5, and must win by seven or more for the bet to win; the underdog at +6.5 can lose by up to six and the bet still wins. Half-point lines prevent a push; whole-number lines can end level, in which case the stake is usually returned.
Totals and team totals
The game total is the combined score of both teams; team totals cover one side only. Pace matters: teams that play fast generate more possessions and more points. Totals lines are set precisely, so small edges come from information such as injuries or rest days rather than from guessing.
Quarters, halves and overtime
Quarter and half markets let you bet on a slice of the game. Pay attention to overtime: full-game markets in basketball normally include it, while quarter and half markets do not. Player props — points, rebounds, assists — usually require the player to take part for the bet to stand; the rules for players who do not play differ by bookmaker, so check them.
In-play basketball
Scoring is constant, so live lines move every few seconds and markets are suspended frequently. Bet slips are more likely to be rejected or re-priced than in slower sports. If cash out is offered, its value already includes a margin.
From a winning slip to your bank
Basketball winnings go into the same balance as everything else. If you used a betting promotion, check that its conditions are met before you request a withdrawal; an open condition can block the request or remove the promotional funds. A request typically moves through Pending, Processing, Approved and Sent, and the first payout usually waits for identity verification — in Estonia that is commonly done with an ID card, Smart-ID or Mobile-ID. The withdrawal guide covers every step, and the bet types page explains handicaps and totals in more detail.
Late-night games in other time zones are a classic way to bet tired. Set limits in advance and keep the responsible gambling tools close.
